 Life-time Distinguished Professor
Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology
Institute of Biochemical and Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Hsuan-Liang Liu is a Life-time Distinguished Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology and the Institute of Biochemical and Biomedical Engineering at National Taipei University of Technology. He received his B.S. degree from the Department of Chemical Engineering of National Taiwan University in 1991 and a Ph.D. degree from the Department of Chemical Engineering of Iowa State University in 1998. Dr. Liu’s current research projects focus on computer-aided drug design, computational biology, and bioinformatics.

In the past decade, Dr. Liu has focused on multidisciplinary issues based on biosimulation, such as bioinformatics, molecular dynamics simulations, homology modeling, molecular docking, and computer-aided drug design, in which he investigated biological problems by means of mathematic, physical, chemical, and computational approaches.

Currently, Dr. Liu’s research focus has extended to investigating neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's (AD), Parkinson's (PD), and Huntington's (HD) diseases, and to developing novel imaging agents used in positron emission tomography. Dr. Liu’s core research approach combines high-throughput virtual screening, computational structural biology, metabolic modeling, and bioinformatics.

Dr. Liu has received the Young Scholar Award from the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers in 2004 and 2-times Outstanding Research Awards from National Taipei University of Technology and 3-times Outstanding Research Awards from the College of Engineering of National Taipei University of Technology during 2003-2007.  According to his outstanding research ability, Dr. Liu has been elected as a Distinguished Professor in 2008 and a Life-time Distinguished Professor since 2017.
